AVIAN BIRD FLU disaster update:

Thank you for your ongoing support to those who have been affected by the avian bird flu disaster. Please continue to keep them in your prayers.  Lutheran Disaster Response contributed $5,000 to assist local food pantries in Western Iowa with supplies. The Western Iowa Synod disaster response also contributed $1,000 to food pantries in the counties that were affected by the bird flu. The Western Iowa Synod partnered with Upper Des Moines Opportunity, which provided mobile food pantries for the counties most affected by the bird flu.

It is good news that the first turkey farm that was infected with the Avian bird flu in Iowa is now open again. But the recovery will be slow, and many people have lost their jobs. Check out the interview with KCCI News, Steve O'Brien.

We are beginning to see some of the economic impact of the bird flu in our Synod. Please continue praying for the producers as they begin recovery, for displaced workers, and for all who have been affected by the avian bird flu.  If you know of someone who has been directly affected by the avian bird flu that needs assistance, or if you wish to contribute to the disaster response fund, please contact Jeff Ungs at the Synod office. 712-732-4968 x449.

Christian faith begins with God’s gracious gift of salvation through believing in Jesus Christ. However, it was never intended to remain just a set of ideas or beliefs. God gives us gifts, talents, time, and resources so that we can serve the people around us. This Recharge will both energize and equip youth to discover their gifts and passions, and give practical ideas for ways they can get out into the world and Do Something!
