A Warm Welcome to our New MYC Families!
Between mid-season auditions and our graduating fall introductory choir classes MYC is welcoming nearly 50 NEW singers to our performing choirs this January! New faces will be at each rehearsal--please give them a smile and a warm welcome.

New MYC parents are invited to a short welcome and orientation session on January 14 or 15 where we will give a brief overview of the MYC community and welcome your questions. Parents of new singers are strongly encouraged to attend one of the sessions below that fits with your singer's rehearsal schedule. Sessions will last approximately 40 minutes.

Sunday, January 14, Studio 4
4:15PM | Parents of new Choraliers, Con Gioia, or Ragazzi members
6:30PM | Parents of new Capriccio, Cantilena, or Cantabile members

Monday, January 15, MYC Office (just beyond rehearsal studios along back hallway)
5:40PM | Parents of new Purcell or Britten members
Rehearsal Reminders
Please bring to rehearsal:
  • a 1" black binder for music,
  • a sharpened pencil
  • a water bottle (if you think you'll need a drink during rehearsal)

Rehearsals begin promptly and a lot happens in the first few minutes--thank you for planning ahead and being on time!
Because Westgate Mall is a public space, we recommend you park your car and walk with your younger singer to and from our rehearsal studios. Singers are encouraged to wait upstairs (where there is MYC staff) if a ride is going to be delayed.

The rehearsal table is staffed from 3:45 to 7:45pm on Sundays and 5:15 to 8pm on Mondays.  We suggest that if you have something to drop off or pick up that you do this BEFORE your rehearsal begins so you don't miss your opportunity.
The Big Red Box on the rehearsal table may be used for making tuition payments, turning in forms, etc.
MYC Open House Weekend
On Sunday, January 21, and Monday, January 22, our rehearsals will be held off-site and MYC families are invited to attend! You will learn about the rehearsal process, see your singer's ensemble in action, and have opportunities to socialize with other MYC families in a space that is NOT Westgate! Location information and specific rehearsal times are included on your singer's rehearsal calendar (we will also remind you!)

Parent Resource Group January Meeting
We are looking forward to further engaging our enthusiastic and talented pool of MYC parents in 2018 through the Parent Resource Group, a collection of parent-leaders who are eager to invest their enthusiasm into the broader MYC community.

Our January meeting will be held this Monday, January 8, at 5:30PM at the MYC office and will focus on making the Open House Weekend a social success! We'll also discuss a meeting schedule with priorities for the rest of the season. We're looking forward to the valuable perspective and ideas YOU might bring to such a group--we hope you will consider joining us!
Rehearsal Parent Opportunities this Semester
Do you know how to smile and say hello while holding a pencil and clipboard?

We would love your welcoming demeanor to fill our open rehearsal parent slots for this semester:
  • Purcell
  • Choraliers
  • Con Gioia (shared)
  • Capriccio
  • Cantilena

Rehearsal parents arrive 10-15 minutes before rehearsal begins, take attendance and ensure we have been in contact with families of absent singers. If you are interested in volunteering for this rewarding role (you will meet a lot of singers and their parents!), please email Ian for more information. Thanks!
Concert Recordings
Ordering information for concert cds can be found inside your December concert program or by visiting the website of our recording partner Audio for the Arts.
Spring Introductory Choir
For students ages 7-10, new sessions of introductory choir begin next Saturday, January 13 (Lake Edge Lutheran Church location) or mid-February (Westgate Studios) and registration is open on our website under the Join A Choir tab. Completing introductory choir is the first step toward joining a year-long choir for singers this age.
January orders are due Monday, January 22. (We will have the Big Red Box for submitting orders at our Open House!) Orders will be available for pick up at rehearsals January 28 and 29. Families receive $5/unit sold toward their fundraising contribution goal.

Madison Boychoir Festival
February 24, 2018 | West High School, Madison

Members of Purcell, Britten, Holst and Ragazzi play host to hundreds of fellow singers from all over Madison and southern Wisconsin at our 7th Annual Madison Boychoir Festival on Saturday, February 24. Please be reminded:

  • This is on your MYC calendar;
  • it's a required event (please plan ahead!);
  • we need to hear from you via the on-line absence form if you have an immovable, unavoidable conflict;
  • MYC singers DO NOT need to register; we are already planning you will be participating (see above!)
  • The FREE, public concert showcasing the festival's 400+ participants begins at 12:30pm. We are finished around 1:15pm.

This is not only an amazing day for our singers and the community; it's an amazing day filled with logistical victories made possible by our excellent volunteers--YOU! Please consider joining us!
Weather Cancellation Reminders
With winter back in full force in Wisconsin, please be reminded that we will publish rehearsal cancellations on our Facebook page, website and via email to MYC families. Text alerts are also available via Remind.com. To sign up, please text the code assigned to your singer's ensemble (e.g., "@mycch" for Choraliers) to the number 81010:

Choraliers @mycch
Con Gioia @myccg
Capriccio @myccp
Cantilena @myccl
Cantabile @myccb
Purcell: @mycpc
Britten: @mycbr
Holst: @mychl
Ragazzi: @mycrz

With families spread across southern Wisconsin, we understand that weather and road conditions can be quite different throughout the area and recommend you make the best and safest decision for travel based on the weather conditions where you live. Please remember to always submit an absence form on-line if you are delayed or not able to travel to rehearsal.
