2017 Synod Assembly Registration
The 2017 Southeastern Iowa Synod Assembly will be held on May 19-20 at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines.

At this year's assembly, we will be talking about what it means that God so Loves the World. Bishop Burk says, "I am especially looking forward to sharing some of my thoughts about the ways God continues to call us into a hope-filled future and I am anxious to hear and learn from you too."

Lutheran Day on the Hill
Mark your calendars and plan to join a group of passionate advocates on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, for Lutheran Day on the Hill and make a difference for tens of thousands of Iowans. Your legislators want and need to hear from you about critical human services.

Lutheran Day on the Hill gives you the opportunity to share your voice with your legislators. As in years past, participants will be given information about important issues before the legislature and will be given suggestions about how best to visit with them concerning what is most important to you. The day will begin at 9:30 at Capitol Hill Lutheran Chruch before moving to the Statehouse.

Chartered buses offered at no cost to attendees will be stopping in Iowa City and Newton. Online registrations is available by clicking the link below. With additional information provided on that site.

This event has been made possible in part through a grant from ELCA World Hunger. Lutheran Services in Iowa is proud to be a partner in Lutheran Day on the Hill with the three Iowa Synods of the ELCA.

Resolution Information for 2017 Synod Assembly
One avenue of access for congregations, conferences, synod organizational units and voting members to address issues and propose a plan for action is the resolution. Resolutions help organize the work of the assembly by clarifying important issues or concerns. Resolutions are first reviewed by the Reference and Counsel Committee, which will make recommendations to the assembly to facilitate its work, but the resolutions belong to the assembly and may be amended, rejected or adopted after consideration by the voting members. Resolutions may be submitted until 45 days prior to the first day the assembly meets. For the 2017 Synod Assembly, resolutions must be in the synod office by April 4, 2017. Please read the Writing a Resolution  Guide 2017 by clicking the button below.

Churchwide News
Reformation 500
The ELCA is one church body organized in three expressions - congregations, synods and the churchwide organization. Each expression has its particular functions, but all three share a common mission of doing God's work in the world and proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ. Congregations, members, synods and other institutions of the ELCA will be observing the 500th anniversary of the reformation by a variety of events and activities in the coming years. Many of the local activities will reflect the magnitude of work being done on a national and international scale.

Youth will build community with each other, learn more about hunger and ELCA World Hunger, and take time to reflect on how God is calling them to respond to need in their world. Based on Acts 2:42, Act2Day 4 Tomorrow draws on the seven faith practices of the ELCA (pray, study, serve, give, invite, encourage and worship).

The annual Graven Award, now in its 28th year, is presented to a person "whose life is nurtured and guided by a strong sense of Christian calling and who is making a significant contribution to community, church and society."
